Do not share your personal details, bank account, UAN over phone, warns EPFO
EPFO is warning members via its website and social media handles regarding fake phone calls and is also advising them not to share personal details like PAN, Adhar Card, bank account or EPF account details like Universal Account Number (UAN).
You have always been told not to share your bank details and even passwords to various financial apps with others. Now, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has asked EPF members not to share their details with others over the phone. This alert is prominently displayed on the EPFO's website (www.epfindia.gov.in).
This is what it says: "EPFO never asks you to share your personal details like Adhar /PAN/UAN/Bank Details etc over Phone. EPFO never calls any member.

Provident Fund (PF) is a
retirement fund scheme provided to a salaried class person. Both employee and the
employer must contribute to it on a monthly basis. Generally, it is 12% of the
basic salary by the employee and the same by the employer. The employee can
avail the benefits of the investment upon retirement. Employees can also choose
to liquidate funds while in employment – this is subject to certain terms and
conditions. The contribution made by the employer is equivalent to that of the
